Another beta release of FocusWriter

Posted on August 24, 2012, under FocusWriter

I have just released another beta of FocusWriter, version 1.3.90. I have fixed all reported bugs, as well as a few I found along the way. I also removed the included dictionaries, so Windows users will now need to get dictionaries from Apache OpenOffice or LibreOffice. Please let me know if you find any bugs!

Alright looks like the more frightening things we saw last time are taken care of. What I’m seeing now is a bit silly, but I haven’t been able to get any of it to be destructive like before.

Biggest one I see right now is that when dragging a scene in the list or moving it via keyboard shortcut, the moved scene takes on the scene header of the scene that is now directly before it, at least in the list, at that time. The text in the document hasn’t actually changed, nor is the body text of the scene that follows the header in the scene list, and you can fix the error simply by closing the scene list and reopening, but there it is.

Related to moving scenes around, I notice that unless you stick a character, or at least a carriage return into the line at the end of a scene, it won’t get moved if you move that scene around. So you end up with the odd scene moved from the end that has no blank line between it and the next scene head. Not a big deal, and I can see from a code perspective what’s going down, but that could be a useful change, if that last line, as long as there’s a line there, be moved with (I guess you’d need to make FW slip in a carriage return or something when it moves, so that might make other problems, I don’t know)

Another little niggler is that if I accidentally have my mouse sitting over the top or bottom bars (i.e. they are visible), I can’t get the scene list open with the keyboard. I’m using Alt+Left as my shortcut. It seems that when either top or bottom bars are visible, pressing Alt messes with how the keyboard responds (something to do with interaction with the menu bar, I imagine).

FW seems far enough along toward 1.4 that there’s no data safety worries using it, just some some little UI bugs to squash. Thanks.

Just happened to be sitting down to some quality time with the laptop when this came in. Its not like I wasn’t planning to write at that time anyway 😜

I downloaded a spell checker from Libre-Office! Focus writer through me out of the program when I started to use the spell-checker. I am now unable to start FocusWriter again even though I have tried to reinstall focuswriter. Do you know how to fix this problem because I really like focuswriter.

@Funny by the way. IT was “American British Canadian - spelling/hyphen/thesaurus dictionaries” this dictionary I used.

@Funny What version of FocusWriter are you using? I have already fixed a bug like that in version 1.4.1.1.
