FocusWriter bugfix release

Posted on January 22, 2010, under FocusWriter

I have made a new release of FocusWriter, version 1.2.1. I added two small features in this release, before I decided to make this a bugfix release. The user can now disable anti-aliasing, and they can also move the text area’s horizontal position in each theme from the middle to either the left or the right of the window.

Hi!
I just discover your software, FocusWriter is a fantastic tool!

But I have an inconvenient with the signs áéíóú, äëïöü, or similar. When I type one of this signs, FocusWriter automatically make a mistake:

Example: I want to type: “música” but Focus make: “múusica”. Always with this king of signs.

How to solve this?

I use Mac with Snow Leopard

This is a known bug in the Carbon version of Qt, the cross-platform toolkit I used to make FocusWriter. Unfortunately, I do not have a Mac new enough to run the Cocoa version of Qt (it requires Mac OS X 10.5, but my iBook can only run 10.4).

Thanks for this wondefull app !

I have a problem with background image : when I click in the grey square to add the image (I guess that’s the way to do it) the application freeze. I’m on mac os x 10.5.8.

By the way, any plan to support RTF format ?

Thanks.

Thanks for your bug report, I will look into it and get back to you when I’ve figured it out.

With regards to RTF support, I have some interest in adding formatting but that would require significant reworking of the architecture of the program. The addition of that likely won’t appear for awhile.

How to increase font size in focus writer ?

The font size is controlled by each theme. You can modify a theme and set its font size by opening the themes dialog under the settings menu and double clicking on a theme.

Focus Writer was recommended to me by a coach and I’m can’t even download and unzip it. Not being very computer savvy. Can you tell me how to go through the proceedure to get it up so I can use it.

Thanks!

I’d be glad to help, although I’m not sure exactly what you’re having trouble with. I’m going to assume you’re using Windows because you want to unzip the file.

Click on the “Windows” link under the “Download” section and select the option to save the file. Once the download completes, select the option to open the folder you downloaded the file to.

A file browser window should now appear. Right-click on the downloaded file and select “Extract All…”. A window will pop up and walk you through the process of extracting the files, and it should finish by opening the extracted files in a new window. Simply double-click on the extracted “FocusWriter.exe” file to run the program.

This is a truly wonderful piece of software. For years I have been looking for something as simple and uncluttered — but also as customisable — as this that lets you just get on with the job of writing. Thank you very much. Jon
